Online fraud through fake customer care number, youth cheated of Rs 1 lakh 44 thousand
Raigarh: The case of online fraud through fake customer care numbers is not new. Such cases have come to light earlier also. Cyber thugs have put fake customer care numbers on popular search engines, by using which customers become victims of fraud. A similar case happened with a person living in Kotwali Raigarh area. The victim told that on October 31, he tried to withdraw ₹ 10,000/- from the SBI ATM but the money was not withdrawn from the ATM and a message of debit of rupees from the account came.
In case the money was not received for 3 days, the victim searched the customer care number on the popular search engine Google and spoke to the customer care and lodged his complaint. The customer care (fake) made him talk to his senior officer, who sent an app on WhatsApp in the name of refunding the money deducted from the account and filled the details in the online app, after which the victim received a total of 1 out of 11 calls from Union Bank Raigarh and HDFC Bank Raigarh branch. Rs 44,968 were withdrawn. On the application of the victim, a case of fraud has been registered in the police station against the holder of the unknown mobile number.
It is important to mention here that sometimes cash gets stuck in the ATM machine, due to which the customer does not get the cash and the customer receives the message that money has been deducted from the account. Don’t panic in such a situation. According to the information, the time limit for refund of rupees on such transactions has been fixed by the bank on the day of transaction + 5 days. As per the rules, all the banks have to return the deducted money to the customer’s account within the stipulated period, failing which there is a provision to pay a penalty on daily basis to the bank customer. In such a situation, for banking complaints, customers should go to their bank and complain only by getting the customer care number from the official website of the bank. Apart from this, do not share confidential banking information with anyone nor install any app sent on your mobile by an unknown person.
