Opium worth one crore rupees seized in Gumla, Jharkhand, kingpin absconding
Ranchi (IANS). Police of Gumla district of Jharkhand have seized opium worth about one crore rupees from Sisai police station area. Opium trade leader Birendra Sahu absconded.
SP Harvinder Singh said that the accused will be arrested soon.
It was told that the SP had received information that Birendra Sahu, a resident of Redwa, Sisai, was about to reach home with a huge quantity of opium in his car. On this, a team was formed under the leadership of SDPO.
The team reached Redwa and surrounded the house of Birendra Sahu and started waiting for his arrival.
As soon as he entered the boundary wall of the house in his car, the police also reached from behind. Seeing the police, Birendra got out of the car and ran away taking advantage of the darkness.
Police seized 1.130 grams of opium from the car and subsequently 8.954 kilograms of opium during a search of his house.
SP Harvinder Singh said that the market value of 10.84 kg of opium is approximately Rs 1 crore. In this case, an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act in Sisai police station.
