NEW DELHI: A video has surfaced online showing an alleged group of Pakistani nationals protesting and chanting slogans near the Burj Khalifa in Dubai after the building allegedly failed to light up in the colours of the Pakistan national flag on the occasion of its Independence Day.
Hundreds of people had gathered near the world’s tallest building, which is known to display the national flags of countries on their Independence Day and other days of special occasion and festivals. However, as the clock struck 12, the building did not display the Pakistan national flag.
After a few moments of shock, the crowd could be heard chanting Pakistani slogans.
A woman who supposedly recorded the whole scenario on her mobile can be heard saying that, “The time is 12.01 am now and the Dubai officials have informed that Pakistan’s national flag won’t be displayed on Burj Khalifa. This has become our status now.”
The Burj Khalifa had displayed the Pakistan national flag on the occasion of its Independence Day last year. Dubai has a large expat population from Pakistan and India.
The Burj Khalifa displayed India’s Tricolour on Republic Day this year and is expected to do the same on August 15 for Independence Day.
