Palamu Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand needs tigresses: PTR official
Tiger reserve officials believe that Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Jharkhand needs tigers to conserve the three male migratory tigers sighted in the last months.
As per the tiger census conducted in 2018, there was neither a single tiger in the PTR nor any significant presence of the big cat had been recorded since then. However, it currently hosts three traveling tigers, all males, who may remain if a pair is found inside the reserve.
PTR officials are seriously considering approaching the National Authority for Tiger Conservation to approve the transfer of tigers from other reserves where they may be in abundance.
When contacted, PTR Deputy Director Kumar Ashish confirmed, “The three tigers and all their male migrants are now being rescued inside the central areas of PTR.” He said he was safe from it and had the photos. Cameras perform other tests such as trampling and pug marks.
Tigers are known to travel to remote places in search of suitable habitat, suitable food and potential mates.
The PTR Deputy Director said that the three migratory tigers must have liked the habitat in Palamu and are also getting adequate diet, as one of them has been here since March this year and the other two for the last two months.
“But we are not sure we will stay here if we do not find a pair for a long time,” he said.
