Paranthur airport work to begin soon: D.R. Baalu

Tamil Nadu: D.R. Baalu, Lok Sabha member and chairman of the Chennai Airport Advisory Committee, stated that work on the Paranthur Airport will begin once land acquisition is completed.
A review meeting on airport improvements was held at the Chennai Meenambakkam Airport Management Office on Friday, chaired by T.R. Baalu.
The meeting discussed improving passenger traffic and cargo handling at Chennai Airport, as well as raising standards to make the airport a hub for more international flights.
Following this, T.R. Baalu told reporters:
Chennai city buses operate within the airport and pick up passengers, a feature not available at many airports in India. This has been well-received. Furthermore, for passenger convenience, a metro rail service will soon be launched from Meenambakkam to Klamambakkam. The Tamil Nadu government is working on this.
In addition, steps will be taken to build a new cargo center at the airport to handle more cargo.
Specifically, 5,700 acres of land is required to build the Parandur Airport. Of this, 2,000 acres belongs to the government. 3,700 acres belongs to private individuals. Of this, 1,300 acres has already been acquired. Work is underway to acquire the remaining land from private individuals. This work will be completed soon, and only after that will the airport construction begin. He said that if this airport is built, it will help alleviate significant traffic congestion in Chennai.
Chennai Airport Director Raja Kishore, Tambaram MLA S.R. Raja, Pallavaram MLA E. Karunanidhi, and several others attended the meeting.
