PM Modi has time to deliver speeches across the country but not in Parliament: Kharge
New Delhi (IANS). Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he does not want to speak on the Manipur violence in Parliament, which is the temple of democracy, but he has enough time to deliver political speeches across the country. Time is what is “spoiling democracy”.
He also said that the government which does not listen to the call of the people of Manipur is a blot on humanity.
In a tweet, Kharge said, “The burning of Manipur is a dark chapter for the country. The government which did not heed the cries of the people of Manipur for the last 85 days is a blot on humanity. Parliament is in session and Instead of speaking in the House, the Prime Minister is giving speeches from place to place, it is tarnishing democracy.”
He said, by abusing the opposition, the misdeeds of the Modi government cannot be erased. Only Dalits, tribals and anti-backward people can make fun of black clothes, but for us black is a symbol of protest and strength. Black color is a symbol of justice and a symbol of respect. The people of Manipur deserve justice, peace and respect.
“The BJP cannot run away from its responsibility by plunging the life of Manipur into darkness, adopting a dictatorial attitude, diverting attention from the issue. There has never been a worse phase in the history of Parliament,” he said.
He also attached the video of his statement to the media.
The Congress and the opposition parties have been demanding a statement from the Prime Minister on the situation in Manipur in both the Houses of Parliament and a detailed discussion on the situation in the northeastern state.
