PM Modi, Mamata Banerjee to address rallies in Cooch Behar Lok Sabha constituency today

Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee will address public meetings on Thursday at locations located about 40 km apart in the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha constituency as the high-decibel campaign for the general elections reaches its peak in north Bengal.

Prime Minister Modi will speak at 2.30 pm at the Rasmela ground in Cooch Behar city to campaign for BJP candidate Nisith Pramanik.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s rally is scheduled at Mathabhanga at 12 noon. Trinamool Congress has fielded Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia on the Cooch Behar seat reserved for Scheduled Castes.

The Trinamool president will address a rally at Malbazar in Jalpaiguri parliamentary constituency at 1.30 pm on Thursday.
Mamata is in North Bengal since Sunday night and is taking stock of the damage caused by the storm in Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to speak at another meeting in Jalpaiguri on April 7.
This is the first time after 2019 that both the leaders will address public meetings in North Bengal on the same day.
Modi was in Siliguri on April 3, 2019 for the general election campaign while Mamata was in Cooch Behar.

“I will address two public meetings tomorrow. Next day, I will address more rallies in the area. On April 17, I will go to Assam because our party has fielded four candidates there,” Mamata, who is staying at a private resort in Chalsa in Jalpaiguri, said on Wednesday.
When informed about Modi’s visit, the Chief Minister gave a brief reaction. “Any political party can campaign anywhere. It is election time and anyone can come to campaign.

Elections will be held in Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar constituencies on April 19. BJP had won three seats in 2019.
He said, “We are planning to bring more than one lakh people to the Prime Minister’s rally tomorrow. BJP will win the Cooch Behar seat again,” said Biraj Bose, general secretary of the party’s Cooch Behar district committee.
However, several leaders of a faction of the Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA), which is led by BJP Rajya Sabha member Nagen Roy, have said that the party has not invited them and hence, they will not attend Modi’s rally. Will be.

Dressed in traditional Rajbanshi attire and holding high GCPA flags, hundreds of supporters will converge on the venues of BJP’s previous rallies in Cooch Behar.
“The MPs will be there. Since we have not been invited, none of our supporters will go to the Rasmela grounds,” said GCPA faction president Nirmal Roy.
Desperate to win Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri seats, Trinamool has made arrangements for thousands of people to gather at Mamata’s public meetings in Mathabhanga and Malbazar on Thursday.
Trinamool has organized at least 12 meetings which the Chief Minister will address in North Bengal.
