PM Modi met the President of Brazil in Japan, discussed many issues

New Delhi (IANS) | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Brazilian President Inacio Lula da Silva in Hiroshima, Japan and discussed the bilateral strategic partnership, especially defense production, trade and renewable energy. Modi and Lula met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

PM Modi tweeted, talks with President Lula went well. India and Brazil will continue to work together to deepen trade ties. We also discussed diverse cooperation in agriculture, defense and other sectors.

Strengthening the bond of friendship, PM Narendra Modi met President Lula of Brazil in Hiroshima, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a tweet. Discussed ways to further deepen India-Brazil strategic partnership, especially in defense production, trade and other areas.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that this was the first meeting between the two leaders.

During the meeting, both the leaders noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the leaders exchanged views on regional developments. They stressed the importance of continued cooperation in multilateral fora and the long-standing need to reform multilateral institutions.

It said, the Prime Minister will welcome President Lula to India for the G-20 Summit in September this year.
