Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested two persons and seized 118 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees, a senior police officer said here on Saturday. Papum Pare Superintendent of Police (SP) Taru Gusar said Mohammed Rasidul Islam and Phurpa Tashi Langla were arrested recently after they brought drugs from Kalaktang in West Kameng district of the state, which were to be sold in the state capital. was intended. The SP revealed that the Doimukh police team, acting on credible information, successfully dismantled the drug smuggling operation being run by the suspects.
He said a police case has been registered under Section 20 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 in connection with the incident. SP said that the police received secret information about a car coming from Kalaktang. As a result, a team from Doimukh police station stopped the vehicle at Hara Hapa. “In the presence of an executive magistrate and independent witnesses, the police conducted a thorough search of the vehicle which resulted in the recovery of suspected ganja weighing approximately 108.723 kg from the possession of Mohammad Rashidul Islam,” the SP said. The police took the alleged criminal into custody and seized both the ganja and the vehicle. After this, the accused was produced in the court and sent to seven days’ custody. After further interrogation, the accused disclosed information about the source of the ganja purchased. In response, a police team was sent to Kalaktang, where they captured Phurpa Tashi Langla, identified as the primary supplier. About 118 kg of ganja was seized during the operation.
