Police have duty to protect the public: Kerala Court

Kochi: A first class judicial tribunal on Monday criticized the state police for registering a case against those who planted shoes in the bus carrying Minister Principal and his aides.

The tribunal confirmed that the police are duty-bound to protect not only ministers but also the general public.

The remarks were made on Monday when the state police produced the accused in the case before the First Class Judicial Tribunal in Perumbavoor. The tribunal also questioned the decision to impose IPC 308 (attempt to commit criminal murder) against the accused.

Meanwhile, the accused were organizers of ‘Nav Kerala Sadas’ and DYFI workers. The tribunal asked whether the police were present there at the time of the incident.
