Police seized medicines worth more than crores of rupees
Bhubaneswar: The Special Crime Unit (SCU) of the Commissionerate Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) has arrested two drug smugglers and seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore from their possession during a raid in Phuleshwari Basti, Bhubaneswar, an official said. Said on Friday.
Police have identified the accused as Pradipta Sahu and Niranjan Pattjoshi of Delang area of Puri district.
The Narcotics Wing of SCU recently received information that some drug smugglers from Delanga area were supplying a huge consignment of brown sugar to vendors in different areas of Bhubaneswar.
“After a month long investigation, the SCU team laid a trap and contacted the accused drug smugglers by posing as fake customers. On Friday, we caught the accused persons red-handed, who had come to Bhubaneswar to sell drugs,” said a police officer.
Both will be presented in the court.
Since its inception on May 10, 2023, the SCU has so far seized a total of 1,420 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.42 crore and 230 kg of ganja worth Rs 23 lakh.
