Policeman injured in midnight ruckus at Baddi spinning mill

A clash between workers and the management of a spinning mill at Baddi last evening turned violent, leaving a policeman injured.

The cop was injured when the protesting workers allegedly resorted to stone pelting.

The trouble started when some labourers sought leave from a security personnel who allegedly beat them up and used abusive language. This irked the workers and 250 of them gathered in protest. They allegedly resorted to stone pelting. The company management sought the police help. A head constable Amarjit Chawdhary, besides some workers, was injured in the melee.

Baddi DSP Khajana Ram confirmed that a policeman was injured in the clash between the management of Deepak Spinning Mill and labourers last night.

“A police team was rushed to the site on getting information and it took several hours to bring the situation under control. The situation returned to normal around 4 this morning,” he added.

A worker, Pradeep, who alleged that he was beaten up along with his kin said his brother was refused leave and was beaten up after being locked in a room. “He was not paid for the job and the management asked the security staff to throw him out of the company,” Pradeep alleged.

“I have been working in the company for the past eight years. Of late, a trend of beating up the labourers and using foul language with them has started at the company, which is not acceptable to us,” alleged another worker hailing from Bihar.

The workers said they came here to work and would not tolerate abusive language and bad behaviour.

As per an FIR registered on the complaint of a worker, Deepak Kumar (22), he saw the company staff beating up Akhilesh and Sunil. They also beat up another employee, Pradeep. It all started when Akhilesh sought leave from a senior employee who allegedly beat him up and broke his phone. The incident happened around 7.30 pm yesterday when he was leaving after finishing his work.

Deepak alleged that the employees who seek leave are beaten up. The other employees also alleged that they were not given salary in time and their seniors used abusive language with them.

The police have registered a case under Sections 126(2), 118(1), 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing grievous hurt. A probe was under way.
