Political tussle over voting in burqa, BJP furious

Byelection 2024: Voting has started today for the by-elections to be held on 15 assembly seats in five states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand. Out of these 15 seats, 13 seats are such which were vacant after the MLAs became MPs. Apart from this, one seat has become vacant after death and one seat has become vacant after the leader went to jail.

A political war is going on in UP regarding the burqa amidst voting. After the Samajwadi Party, BJP has also written a letter to the Election Commission regarding the burqa. BJP has said that voting conducted without identification is fake. BJP has demanded action from the Election Commission in this matter. Let us tell you that earlier the Samajwadi Party had written a letter to the Election Commission saying that women going to vote wearing burqa should not be harassed in the name of investigation. Akhilesh also said today that the police cannot check the ID of voters.

Akhilesh Yadav is continuously appealing to the Election Commission amidst the UP by-election. Akhilesh has tweeted that if the Election Commission has any living existence, then it should come alive and take action. Akhilesh has said that the police should not check the IDs of people. Roads should not be closed. Voters’ IDs should not be confiscated. There should not be a threat of putting someone in jail by calling the real ID a fake ID. The pace of voting should not be reduced. Time should not be wasted, if needed, the voting time should be increased. The administration should not become a representative of the government. All video recordings of electoral irregularities should be taken cognizance of in real time and dishonest officers should be removed immediately.

There is news of uproar during voting in Muzaffarnagar’s Meerapur by-election. In Kakaroli, the crowd has pelted stones at the police, the police chased away the rioting crowd, the SSP is also present on the spot with a heavy police force. According to the news, people of the Muslim community came out in large numbers to vote, but due to the large crowd, when the police asked them to make arrangements, those people pelted stones at the police. After this, the police used mild force and chased the public away from the spot.

Naseem Solanki, SP candidate from Sisamau, said that voters are being prevented from casting their votes, ID cards of many people have been torn and efforts are being made at various places to prevent voting. Even after the Election Commission’s order, the police are harassing people by checking ID cards. Naseem Solanki said that women alleged that the policemen were abusing them and refusing to let them go out.
