Ponnam Prabhakar: Rain-related issues will be inspected in 10 days

HYDERABAD. Hyderabad: To speed up the resolution of rain-related problems, District in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday announced that inspections are to be conducted in all divisions, wards and slum areas in the next 10 days. He said steps are being taken to prevent loss of life and property during the monsoon. The Transport Minister held a review meeting with GHMC officials on monsoon preparedness at the headquarters. Officials from various departments briefed him on monsoon preparedness plans and steps taken to ensure the safety of citizens. Prabhakar directed them to take all measures with advance planning so that people of Hyderabad do not face any problems during the rainy season. Officials were asked to identify waterlogging spots and ensure that teams visit these places to resolve the problems and prevent water stagnation. Officials said 141 waterlogging spots have been identified in the city where water accumulates and arrangements are being made to drain these spots to ensure free flow of water into the stormwater drains (SWD).

Mobile emergency teams have been formed to work 24 hours to deal with any emergency. The minister informed that drain audits have been carried out to prevent accidents on vulnerable drains and 203 officials have been appointed as nodal officers for each zone.

Prabhakar urged the officials to remain vigilant and take all precaution to prevent any loss of life and property due to rain or floods. He assured them that the government will support GHMC in solving any problem of the people. He urged MLAs and councillors, irrespective of party affiliation, to work together to ensure that there is no loss of life and property during the monsoon.

Walls of identified dilapidated buildings and dangerous premises are being demolished and digging of basements has been banned during the monsoon season. People should be made aware about the precautions to be taken to prevent malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases. To avoid lightning-related incidents, unfenced power transformers should be fenced, she told officials.

Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi sought the state government’s cooperation to strengthen the city’s infrastructure. GHMC in-charge commissioner Amrapali Kata explained the monsoon action plan to the minister in detail. She said they have already reviewed the plan with officials of concerned departments and regional commissioners.
