Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni becomes victim of mischievous phone call
Rome. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, facing criticism from opposition leaders in her country, said her top diplomatic adviser had taken the decision. He was tricked by a prank call in which he talked about the war in Ukraine and emigration. Meloni said that Francesco Tallo, who previously served as Italy’s ambassador to NATO and Israel, failed because of the failure.
In a conversation with a senior African Union official, Meloni made important comments on several issues. It says Italy is not getting enough support to curb migration. Meloni said in a telephone conversation that Ukraine is very tired of war and that it will soon become clear to everyone that both countries need a permanent solution. The Italian Prime Minister’s Office later confirmed that the call was not from an African Union official, but from a Russian comedian who had managed to spoof them.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed regret over this, saying that the misleading call had stated that the caller was African Union Commission Chairman Moussa Faki. Meloni accused his staff of failing to properly screen callers after a recording of the call was posted online earlier this week.
