Principal of Law College challenges Calcutta High Court’s order regarding expulsion
Kolkata (IANS). The principal of the prestigious Jogesh Chandra Choudhary Law College has approached the Calcutta High Court to stop the court’s expulsion order.
On Thursday, a single-judge bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court directed the removal of Sunanda Goenka from the post of principal of the said law college and ordered the closure of her room till further orders.
Justice Gangopadhyay also ordered the removal of another teacher from the same college. Their appointments were not made in accordance with the provisions of the University Grants Commission. Instructions were given to remove this.
The bench has directed both Goenka and Kundu not to enter the college premises till further orders.
However, on Friday Goenka approached a division bench of the Calcutta High Court division bench comprising Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Uday Kumar against the order of the single-judge bench.
Meanwhile, the court-appointed officer sealed the principal’s room on Friday morning.
A single-judge bench on Thursday ordered Trinamool Congress MLA and former West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) chairman, Manik Bhattacharya, to refund the entire salary he drew as the former principal of Chandra Choudhary Law College. .
There were similar allegations against Bhattacharya that he had taken over as the Principal of the said law college in violation of UGC rules.
Bhattacharya is currently in judicial custody in a Kolkata jail for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore cash for school jobs case in West Bengal.
