PS purge: 85 Punjagutta personnel transferred in Telangana

Hyderabad: In an unprecedented move, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police (CP) Kothakota Srinivas Reddy on Wednesday ordered the transfer of 85 of the 130 police personnel ranging from sub-inspectors to constables from Punjagutta police station.

These transfers follow a series of incidents, including the leaking of sensitive information and the escape from custody of former BRS MLA Aamir Shakeel’s son Raheel. Ironically, the police station had earlier received the award for prompt disposal of cases and provision of efficient public services.

While KS Reddy was reportedly disappointed with the handling of several cases by police personnel at the Punjagutta station, sources said the incident that worried him the most was that Inspector B Durga Rao allegedly tried to stop Raheel from running away after the accident. Helped and blamed another person. ,

DCP (West Zone) SM Vijay Kumar said, “Inspector Shoban, formerly working in the CP office, has been appointed as the new station house officer. The decision to transfer the officers was based on administrative concerns and reports highlighting their involvement in activities that impede efficient operations. “The move is aimed at restoring order, addressing security concerns and enhancing policing for better public service.”
All transferred personnel have been reassigned to the Armed Reserve (AR). Additionally, 82 officers selected from various wings such as law and order and SHE teams have been attached to Panjagutta police station. Additionally, the CP has suspended the Gopalapuram SHO for negligence in handling a murder case.

After the role of Inspector Durga, who is currently absconding, came to light in Rahil’s case, the CP issued orders to suspend him. Recently, based on the analysis of call records of the suspended inspector, Bodhan CI and an associate of the former MLA were detained for their alleged involvement in helping Rahil escape.

In another incident within the limits of Punjagutta police station, a man created chaos on Ameerpet roads while attempting to escape from being chased recently. Accused Aamir Ali drove the rented car recklessly and when he saw that the car owner was following him, he collided with the pedestrians.

Reportedly, Ali had rented the car in November 2023 and failed to return it. Recognizing that his car was being driven by Ali, the owner started following him. The angry mob intervened and caught Ali and handed him over to the police, who later took him to Gandhi Hospital. Surprisingly, after treatment he managed to escape.

Additionally, there are allegations that officials of the Panjagutta police station may have links with the previous BRS government and are passing on sensitive information to opposition leaders.
