Punjab: Bus vandalized, driver and policeman beaten up
Punjab: Nihangs went on a rampage during a martyrdom gathering, vandalised a Punjab Roadways bus near GT Road Sirhind opposite Sirhind police station and injured its driver. In a separate incident, they allegedly assaulted a Hindu boy and attacked an ASI who tried to intervene. Both the driver and the ASI have been hospitalised. Bus driver Avtar Singh said that while he was travelling from Ambala to Ludhiana, a caravan of Nihangs on horses approached him. One of the horses reportedly hit an oncoming tempo, enraging the Nihangs.
They attacked the bus with swords and weapons, breaking its front and side mirrors. When the driver tried to pacify them, they seriously injured him. Police have registered a case on his complaint. In another incident, ASI Harminder Singh reported that while he was on duty near Gurdwara Sheesh Ganj Sahib, two Nihangs attacked a Hindu boy with kirpans and sticks. When the ASI intervened, he was also attacked with intent to kill. The boy and the ASI have been hospitalised. SSP Dr Ravjot Grewal said, “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Such elements will be dealt with strictly.” The police have registered a case against the attackers and arrested two Nihangs under various sections of the law.
