Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann suffering from leptospirosis

Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was diagnosed with the bacterial infection leptospirosis on Saturday. Doctors said he is being given antibiotics. The 50-year-old AAP leader was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Wednesday for a routine check-up. According to a health bulletin issued by the hospital, “At present, all the vital organs of the Chief Minister are completely stable. His blood tests have come positive for leptospirosis, as suspected at the time of admission for tropical fever.” It said the Chief Minister is already being given appropriate antibiotics. “All clinical features and pathological tests have shown satisfactory improvement.” According to the World Health Organisation, leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects both humans and animals. Humans get infected by direct contact with the urine of infected animals or urine-contaminated environment. The bacteria enter the body through cuts or abrasions on the skin or through the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose and eyes.
