Punjab: Drug smuggling busted, two arrested with 30 kg opium husk
Punjab: Wahabwala police have arrested two persons for smuggling 30 kg poppy husk, which was being transported for retail sale in rural areas. The police team led by Assistant Station House Officer Gurmeet Singh conducted the operation and registered a case under sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. The suspects Vijay and Malkiyat, residents of Narayanpura village, were stopped for routine checking on a link road near their village. Upon searching, the officers recovered illicit poppy husk. Both have been sent to two days of police custody for further interrogation. During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to smuggle poppy husk from Rajasthan for retail distribution in rural areas as a means of livelihood. It was also revealed that Malkiyat has a criminal record in the past and several cases are already registered against him, though he was out on bail. The investigation is underway and more details are expected to be revealed as the police continue to investigate the smuggling operation.
