Punjab: Electricity, water supply restored in Ajnala areas

Punjab: Power supply was restored today in 84 villages of Ajnala, which was disrupted since the floods. Relief work continued uninterrupted in Ajnala subdivision. Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni attributed this to the Public Works Department staff who worked day and night to restore power supply. PSPCL Executive Engineer Anishdeep Singh said that floodwater has affected the powerhouses of Ramdas and Gaggomahal, disrupting supply in 84 villages. He said that power has not been restored in Ghonewal village and Dera yet, as the water has not receded yet.

Water Supply and Sanitation Department Executive Engineer Nitin Kalia said that drinking water supply has been restored after thorough cleaning and chlorination. 52 power supply schemes were damaged during the floods. The DC informed that they have managed to contact about 18,000 pensioners over telephone, who are receiving widow, old age and disability pensions and are living in the flood-affected areas. Of these, 1,200 have provided ration kits and medicines for the flood-affected people. All the five AAP MPs have announced grants of about Rs 1.36 crore for relief. The DC said the grants will help in purchasing fogging machines, water tankers, stainless steel sheets, generators and other essential items.
