Punjab: Fire breaks out in shop, no casualties
Punjab: A major departmental store located on Sri Ganganagar-Padampur Road caught fire yesterday evening, causing losses worth lakhs of rupees. There were no casualties in the incident. On receiving the information, the fire department sent three fire engines to the spot to control the fire. It took about two hours for the fire fighters to control the fire. People present on the spot helped in extinguishing the fire. The store owner suffered minor burns while extinguishing the fire. Initial investigations have revealed that there was a firecracker shop in front of the store.
Although the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, it is being said that the fire started due to sparks falling on the firecrackers. It is being said that the spark occurred due to a short circuit in the electrical fittings. This disrupted the power supply of the area. A large number of people gathered at the spot, due to which the road in front of the store was blocked. In view of Diwali, shopkeepers had kept goods on the road, so the fire engines faced difficulties in reaching the spot. Firefighters said that the grocery items kept inside the departmental store were also damaged due to the water sprayed to extinguish the fire. The furniture of the store was also damaged in this incident.
