Punjab has no surplus water to share: State BJP
Chandigarh. Amid the ongoing controversy over the 1981 water-sharing agreement that followed Haryana’s separation from Punjab in 1966, the core committee of the Punjab BJP on Thursday passed a resolution saying Punjab has no surplus water and is facing an acute shortage of surface water. Is.
The core committee, chaired by state party chief Sunil Jakhar, passed a resolution on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, saying, “Punjab does not have surplus water, and its river waters are classified as non-basin and non- Due to shifting to coastal states, they are facing severe shortage of surface water and over-exploitation of ground water.
The resolution said that this is not only against the provisions of the Constitution but also against the principles of natural justice. We strongly resolve to protect the waters of Punjab.
The people of Punjab gave a huge electoral mandate to AAP in the hope of protecting the interests of Punjab. Instead, in an unforgivable act of betrayal, you are misusing Punjab’s natural resources to gain political influence in other states.
“We demand Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to respect the mandate of the people of Punjab, protect the vital interests of Punjab, especially the farmers, or resign,” the BJP resolution said.
The BJP resolved that the state unit of the party will continuously protest and make every sacrifice to stop the construction of the SYL canal or any new water carrier channel to carry the waters of Punjab to non-basin and non-coastal states.
