Punjab Police busts terror module by arresting five operatives linked to Rinda and Brar
New Delhi (IANS). The Punjab Police, in a joint operation with central agencies, arrested five terror operatives linked to Pakistan-based Harvinder Rinda and US-based gangster Goldie Brar on the eve of Independence Day.
With this, another terrorist module has been busted. Police have recovered two foreign made 9 mm pistols and ammunition from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gurinder Singh, Gurpinder Singh, Lovepreet Singh, Narinder Singh and Sukhmanpreet Singh.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the accused were planning to disturb peace and harmony in the state through target killing.
The module was being operated by US-based gangster Harpreet Happy on behalf of Rinda and Brar.
The arrests come a day after the Punjab Police busted a terror module run by Czech Republic-based Gurdev Singh alias Jaisal.
On Monday, police recovered three pistols and ammunition from Tarn Taran and arrested three of his accomplices.
According to the DGP, the police acted on inputs that Rinda and Brar’s henchmen were planning to target prominent political and socio-religious leaders of the state through their newly formed gang.
Amritsar AIG Sukhminder Singh said that the counter-intelligence carried out a special operation in coordination with central agencies. We had inputs that armed henchmen are holding a meeting in Amritsar.
A special team of SSOC Amritsar immediately reached the area and cordoned it off. As a result of which five operatives of this module were arrested along with the recovery of weapons. We have registered an FIR under UAPA.
The AIG said that the arrested persons have recently received a consignment of arms delivered by drone through the Indo-Pak border arranged by gangster Happy with the help of Harvinder Rinda.
