Punjab: Police conducted search operation at railway stations

Punjab: With an aim to make foolproof security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, police on Thursday carried out special cordon and search operations in and around all railway stations across the state. The operation was carried out simultaneously in all 28 police districts from 1 pm to 3 pm on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. During the operation, police teams checked people coming and going at railway stations. Sniffer dogs were also deployed. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, who is monitoring the state-level operation, said all CPs/SSPs have been asked to deploy at least two police teams at each railway station under the supervision of a senior officer to carry out the operation. He said policemen have been strictly advised to behave in a friendly and polite manner with every person during the operation. He said around 250 police parties comprising over 2,300 personnel were deployed across the state. He said that during the campaign conducted at 169 railway stations of the state, 3,299 people were checked and 173 suspicious people were detained for questioning. Apart from this, police teams were also asked to check all the vehicles parked around railway stations using the Vahan app. The special DGP said that the teams checked 2,593 vehicles. He said that 246 traffic challans were issued and 18 vehicles were seized.
