Punjab: Students from high, senior secondary and collegiate schools, while participating in a declamation contest organised here on Thursday as a part of the Sahitya Sadan centenary celebrations, presented the data related to deaths due to consumption of drugs during the past many years in Punjab.

While speaking during the contest they said lakhs of families on the brink of collapse could be saved if the government and NGOs try to stop the drug menace with dedication and took action against peddlers.

Students from 40 schools of Abohar and the Balluana areas, besides a team from Gramotthan Vidyapeeth Sangaria, participated in the declamation contest. Most contestants spoke about the drug menace and issues related to the social media. Sahitya Sadan was established by former MP Swami Keshwanand in 1924. The contest was held to commemorate his 52nd death anniversary on Friday.

The chief guest on the occasion was state award recipient Raju Charaya, chief of the Nar Narayan Sewa Samiti. He was welcomed by Sahitya Sadan president Suryakant Rinwa, in-charge Dr Sandeep Watts and Swami Keshwanand School former principal Saroj Nagpal.
