Punjab’s famous police ‘cat’ Gurmeet Singh Pinky dies
Chandigarh. Gurmeet Singh Pinky, a dismissed policeman from Punjab Police’s controversial ‘CAT’ and who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case, died in a hospital on Wednesday. According to reports, Gurmeet Singh was suffering from dengue. He was undergoing treatment in the hospital, where he died of cardiac arrest. Gurmeet Singh was also known as Pinky Cat. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Avtar Singh Gola in Ludhiana in 2001.
Gurmeet Singh had the protection and political influence of the then state DGP Sumedh Singh Saini. In June 2014, he was released from Nabha jail before completing his 10-year sentence. Gurmeet Singh had shot and killed a man over a trivial issue in January 2001. The deceased was the only son of his parents. In 2015, Gurmeet Singh had uploaded a video on YouTube alleging that he was a witness to at least 50 fake encounters. In his 6-part video, Pinky gave graphic details of murders committed by senior police officers who had received promotions through such acts.
