New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reacts on his reinstatement as a Member of Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi can start discussion on no-confidence motion on behalf of Congress in Lok Sabha
The Congress is likely to start the discussion on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on August 8 (Tuesday), with Rahul Gandhi likely to be the keynote speaker. Party sources said that though the no-confidence motion has been moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, once accepted, it is for the party to decide who will initiate the discussion as the keynote speaker.
The Congress feels that starting the discussion on the no-confidence motion with Rahul Gandhi as the keynote speaker will have the desired effect and put pressure on the government. After the Supreme Court stayed Gandhi’s conviction in the defamation case on August 4, the Congress wanted his Lok Sabha membership to be restored at the earliest.
With his membership reinstated today, the Congress is now keen that the former Speaker initiate the discussion on the no-confidence motion. A senior Congress leader said that the no-confidence motion has been moved to force Prime Minister Narendra Modi to come to the House and speak on the grave situation prevailing in Manipur. The leader said, when the no-confidence motion is brought, it covers all the issues, though the government cannot be removed, but its failures can be exposed through it. With this step, the leader said, people will understand what are the real issues before the country and the real picture of the country will come out.
