Rajasthan Students Allegedly Arrested Over Reel Star Remark on Tina Dabi

Barmer: Student protests in Rajasthan have led to their arrests. The police have arrested students who were protesting against the increase in exam fees in a college. However, the police have detained two student leaders for making inappropriate comments against Barmer District Collector Tina Dabi. This has further escalated the situation. The college students have staged a sit-in at the Kotwal police station, condemning the arrest of the two students.
ABVP student leaders staged a dharna at Multanbal Bhikchand Women’s College. The students protested against the three-fold increase in fees. The students alleged that higher education will be denied to the economically weaker sections. When the media asked them if they could go to the collector and express their problems, the students condemned the collector’s attitude. A student alleged that Collector Tina Dabi does not care about the problems of the students and is only a reel star on social media. The police, taking their comments as wrong, arrested them.
Collector Tina Dabi often posts about the development works of her district on social media. Due to this, she has become popular online. However, the student leader alleged that she is not in a position to go to the collector and raise the issue, and that she is now a reel star. After the arrest of the students, the students of the Women’s College staged a dharna in front of the police station. Collector Tina Dabi responded to this incident. She said that it is a problem between the students and Jodhpur University and it has nothing to do with the district administration. Dabi said that the university VC has assured that the fee will be refunded. Barmer police clarified that the students have not been arrested.
