Rape of a woman is a wrong message for the society: Social scientist Bajrang Muni
Raipur, Raipur | In a civilized society, rape of a woman sends a wrong message to the society. Such degradation in the present society is also a matter of concern. There is anger in the whole of India over the incident that happened in Bengal’s RG Kar Medical College. It is very condemnable that a woman Chief Minister was negligent about such a big incident. After independence, rapes were gradually increasing. For the last few years, rape incidents and cases are increasing at a very fast pace. It is not understandable that according to a survey, the sexual ability of Indian men is decreasing, on the other hand, the increase in rapes proves that masculinity is continuously increasing. I feel that our political and social system is contributing significantly to the increase in rapes and not the increasing masculinity of men. The definition of rape that has been made at present is the main reason for the increasing incidents of rape.
The best definition of rape was given by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, which was never accepted and the present time is rapidly moving in the exact opposite direction of that definition. We are also seeing the results of this change in definition. Along with rapes, murders have also increased. Crowds are increasing in jails. Rape cases are also increasing. Police have become overloaded. The more stringent the laws are becoming, the more the incidents of rape and murder are increasing. It is necessary that the reasons for the increase in rapes be seriously considered.
Sex is a natural hunger and it cannot be suppressed by force. Neither was it possible in ancient times, nor is it possible today, nor will it be possible in the future. The more the gap between hunger and fulfillment increases, the more crime situations arise. In the olden days, hunger used to occur at the age of sixteen and marriage happened at the age of fourteen. Rape was not considered a compulsion. In the times of foolish leaders, desires started arising at fifteen instead of sixteen, so the age of marriage was made twenty-one. In the olden days, even after marriage, if there was compulsion in any situation, there were brothels for men. In the present times, the age of marriage has been increased, while on the other hand, efforts have been made to stop brothels and even bar girls. In ancient times, the government had no interference in whether the distance between a man and a woman should increase or decrease. It depended on the individual, family and society. Now the government is trying to reduce this distance by putting all its might on it. Rapes are increasing and the distance between men and women is constantly decreasing. In the old times, there was discipline in the family and society. Now in the present times, the family system and the social system have been deliberately weakened. In the old times, incidents of molestation were taken to the aid of law only in special circumstances, otherwise such things were dealt with at the social level or hidden. Now, it has become a fashion to exaggerate and publicize such incidents. The slogan of women empowerment is contributing even more to this chaos.
Characterless women have started misusing it more. Naturally, in the old times, it was believed that neither a man nor a woman can be held guilty naturally. Because the compulsion of desires is same between both. In present times, there is a race to prove every man guilty. It is my own experience that among the women who are representing the women of India in constitutional posts, many of them have a tainted personal life. Many of them have been associated with some big politician and this association has played an important role in getting them high posts. There is a doubt that if there are such women among the women who take decisions regarding women, then rapes will definitely increase. Such women and men find backdoor arrangements for themselves and keep making laws to break the family unity of other families. I have even heard that there are discussions going on to declare physical relations between a married husband and wife without permission as rape. I have been listening to the views of Mulayam Singh ji or Sharad Yadav. Even if others do not listen to them.
Increasing rapes are a stigma for the society. All-round efforts will have to be made to stop them. We have to take care that in the name of preventing rape, the attraction between a man and a woman should not be adversely affected. We also have to take care that a person does not become mentally ill or commit any other serious crime due to hunger for sex. Unnecessary legal interference in the name of preventing rape is very dangerous. The age of marriage should be rationalized. Brothels should be opened completely. Amendments should be made in other laws apart from rape. Family and society should also be considered partners in creating discipline. Harassment of women who follow traditional ways should be considered more serious than those who take risks by adopting modern ways. Along with this, efforts should also be made that cunning women should not be able to succeed in blackmailing the society in the name of rape. As much as it is important to stop rape, it is equally important that the tendency of increasing the number of people in jails in the name of rape should not be encouraged.
