Ravneet Bittu’s big statement on Punjab CMO controversy

Chandigarh. The politics of the state has heated up after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into corruption allegations against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Rajbir Singh Ghuman. On Monday, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravneet Singh Bittu launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his government. He claimed that this development has raised serious questions on the functioning of the Punjab Chief Minister Office (CMO).
In a video message released before the media, Ravneet Singh Bittu targeted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, calling him “dishonest Mann”. This comment is his political statement. Bittu alleged that the questions that were being raised about the functioning of the Chief Minister’s Office in the last few years have now become more serious after the court’s order. In the video message, Bittu said, **”It took five years for his reality to be completely revealed. Bhagwant Mann is no longer ‘Man Saheb’. Now he will be known as ‘Beimaan Mann’. This has never happened before; this is happening for the first time in Punjab CMO. **
The BJP leader said that this entire matter should not be limited to the allegations against the Chief Minister’s OSD only. According to him, this matter is directly related to the credibility and administrative system of the Chief Minister’s Office. He said that when the court has to order a CBI inquiry to investigate allegations of corruption against a senior official associated with the Chief Minister’s office, then it is a serious matter for the government.
Bittu alleged that the Punjab government has been claiming transparency and corruption-free administration, but the current developments raise questions on those claims. He said that the government should give clear answers in corruption cases and maintain transparency in the entire matter till the investigation is completed. This statement has come at a time when the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered to hand over the investigation into the corruption allegations leveled against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s OSD Rajbir Singh Ghuman to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). After the court order, opposition parties are continuously attacking the state government.
However, the court order is related to the investigation and does not imply a conclusion of a person’s guilt. The investigating agency will now investigate the allegations and further legal proceedings will be decided on that basis. At present, the investigation in the matter is yet to continue. Ravneet Singh Bittu said in his statement that in a democratic system, the credibility of an institution like the Chief Minister’s Office is very important. He claimed that if such allegations are leveled against an officer working close to the Chief Minister, then the government should take a clear and accountable stand on the entire issue.
He also said that strict action against corruption should not be limited to speeches only, but should also be visible in behavior. According to the BJP leader, the public expects transparent and accountable governance. On the other hand, the Punjab government has earlier said in this matter that it respects the law and will proceed as per the judicial process. Since the investigation of the case is now with the CBI, further action will depend on the report of the investigating agency.
Political analysts believe that after the order of the High Court, the allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling party and the opposition in Punjab may further intensify. The opposition is linking this issue to the accountability of the government, while the final conclusion will be revealed only after the completion of the investigation. Amidst this entire incident, the statement of BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu has become a topic of political discussion. Attacking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in sharp words, he said that this is not just a matter of one officer, but an issue related to the credibility of the Chief Minister’s office. At present, the process of starting a CBI investigation in the matter will proceed. The veracity of the allegations and further legal action will become clear only after the conclusion of the investigation. At the same time, the rhetoric regarding this issue is likely to continue at the political level.
