Record 65 cm of rain in 24 hours in Mulugu district of Telangana
Hyderabad (IANS). Lakshmidevipeta in Mulugu district of Telangana received about 65 cm of rain in the 24 hours ending Thursday morning, which is a new record for the state.
Officials said that this village located in Venkatpur mandal received 64.98 cm of rain in 24 hours. The previous record was 51.75 cm rainfall at Wajed in the same district on July 19, 2013.
Southwest Monsoon is very active over Telangana these days. Due to this, there was heavy rain in many districts on Wednesday.
At least 35 places received more than 20 cm rainfall, while 200 places recorded more than 10 cm rainfall during the 24-hour period ending 8 am on Thursday.
Extremely heavy rainfall (more than 20.44 cm) was recorded at isolated places in Mulugu, Jaishankar Bhupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts.
Chityal in Jaishankar Bhupalpally recorded 61.65 cm of rain. Jaishankar Bhupalpally’s Chelmpur recorded 47.58 cm and Regonda recorded 46.70 cm of rain.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, during the last 24 hours, the state received an average rainfall of 97.7 mm against the normal of 7.1 mm. Thus, the state received 1276 percent excess rainfall during this period.
Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Suryapet, Khammam, Jaishankar, Mulugu, Hanumakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Jagtial districts received 11.56-20.44 cm rainfall at various places .
Many places in Adilabad recorded rainfall of 6.45-11.55 cm.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the state received 60 per cent excess rainfall in the period from June 1 to July 27. The state received 513 mm of rainfall during this period against the normal average of 321.1 mm.
