Registration begins for the Griha Lakshmi scheme of the Government of Karnataka
New Delhi (IANS). The Congress on Wednesday said that the Karnataka government is making arrangements to give Rs 2,000 per month to the accounts of 1.11 crore women heads in the state under the Griha Lakshmi scheme. The Congress had announced the scheme ahead of the assembly elections in Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters, Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Today we are happy to announce that one of the guarantees we had promised before the assembly elections will be fulfilled, which is Very dear to CPP President Sonia Gandhi.
Surjewala said that the Congress government in Karnataka is launching the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme of Griha Lakshmi for women. Rs 1.35 lakh crore will be deposited in the bank accounts of women heads of families. The registration for the scheme has started from 5 pm on Wednesday.
Surjewala said registration would be done at 7,000 Bapuji Seva Kendras in rural Karnataka and Karnataka 1 or Bengaluru 1 in urban areas. If any woman is unable to reach the center then the workers will help her to register in the scheme.
Surjewala said before the assembly elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi had said that they would fight against inflation and had promised guarantees under Griha Lakshmi. He told that the money will be transferred to the account between August 15 and 20.
The Congress leader said the government has prepared a budget of Rs 18,000 crore for the 1.11 crore women of the state under the Griha Lakshmi scheme. Next year the number of beneficiaries will be 1.3 crore and for that Rs 30,000 crore has been earmarked under the DBT scheme.
Surjewala also said that there are 1.28 crore women head ration card holders in the state. Many more families can register for this scheme.
