Relief work continues in Thoothukudi district, NDRF reached the spot
Thoothukudi: Relief activities continued in rain-hit coastal district of Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, while an NDRF team along with police rescued people stranded in SIPCOT industrial area on Saturday.
NDRF team along with SIPCOT police rescued flood affected women and children by boat and provided them food.
Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena today inspected the flood affected areas in the district and assessed the damage caused by the rains. Relief activities are in full swing in the most affected Antoniyarapuram area.
A bridge near Antoniyarpuram on the Thoothukudi-Palayamgottai national highway collapsed during excessive rain on 17 and 18 December, causing flooding, while bridges at Eral and Attur on the Thoothukudi-Tiruchendur road have also been seriously damaged.
Restoration work is also underway in Srivaikuntam, Attur, Eral, Agaram and Kayalpattinam areas which are still flooded.
The central team has already inspected the damage caused by floods in the district.
