Ritu Tawde Elected BMC Mayor, Sanjay Ghadi Becomes Deputy

The suspense over the Mumbai Mayor’s post has come to an end. BJP’s Ritu Tawde has been elected as the Mayor of Mumbai City (Brihan Mumbai Corporation) and Sanjay Ghadi of the Shiv Sena (Shinde) faction has been elected as the Deputy Mayor. The election was scheduled to be held on Wednesday. However, both were elected unanimously. With this, the post of Mumbai Mayor, which was held by the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Thackeray for 25 years, has now been handed over to the BJP.
Ritu Tawde has won as a corporator three times. She recently won from Ghatkopar (ward 132). She previously served as the chairperson of the education committee of BMC. She was previously in the Congress party. Later, she joined the BJP in 2012. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde attended the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor held in BMC. They expressed happiness over the election of Ritu and Sanjay. Fadnavis said that Mumbai will develop under their leadership and the aspirations of every Mumbaikar will be fulfilled. Ritu Tawde is the second mayor elected from the BJP to Mumbai. Prabhakar Pai last served as mayor in 1982-83.
Sanjay Ghadi, who was elected as the Deputy Mayor, will continue in this post for only 15 months. After that, the party has decided to give a chance to others from Shiv Sena (Shinde), party sources said. Sanjay Ghadi won from Magathane, the fifth ward, on behalf of Shiv Sena with a majority of 15,000 votes. Earlier, he was in the Thackeray faction. Before the elections, he joined the Shinde faction and won.
