Retired police SI convicted for taking bribe
Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Baripada on Tuesday sentenced a retired Sub Inspector (SI) of Police to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for five years and imposed a fine of Rs 8000 after convicting him for taking a bribe of Rs 7,000.
According to an official press release, Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada today awarded five years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on one Sarat Chandra Ray, retired SI of Police of Tiring police station of Mayurbhanj district after convicting him for demanding and accepting bribe. of Rs 7000.
The court in its order ruled that in default of payment of fine Ray has to undergo further RI for five months more for the offense under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The court further sentenced Ray to RI for three years and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further RI for 3 months more for the offense under section 7 of PC Act, 1988.
The court ruled that both sentences are to run concurrently.
After his conviction, Ray was sent to jail custody today to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Ray following his conviction.
