Rumi Darwaza to be reopened for Muharram procession in Lucknow
Lucknow: Lucknow’s iconic Rumi Darwaza will reopen for two days to allow movement of religious processions during Muharram. Traffic through the gate was stopped by the Archaeological Survey of India for repair work, but it will be reopened on Thursday and July 26 to allow the 400-year-old tradition of processions during Muharram. Two processions will pass through the gate – the procession of the royal Zari on Muharram 1 (Thursday) and the Mahadi of Janab-e-Qasim on Muharram 7 (July 26). The Islamic month of Muharram will start from Thursday. According to Maulana Saif Abbas, president of the Shia Chand Committee, the moon of the Islamic month of Muharram was not sighted on Tuesday. Therefore, the month of Zihaza will end on Wednesday and the first day of Muharram will be on Thursday. Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali of the Imam Eidgah Markazi Chand Committee said that Yom-e-Ashura, the day Imam Hussain was martyred, would be on July 29.
