Sanatan Dharma Row: People Walk Over Posters Of Udhayanidhi Stalin In MP Temple
In response to the statement of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks on Sanatan Dharma, pictures of the leader and his father – Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin – were pasted on stairs and floors of a temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.
A video of the Gupteshwar Mahadev Mandir in Jabalpur surfaced where a man can be seen pasting posters of Stalin and Udhayanidhi on the floor of the temple. The man then steps onto the pasted picture in a bid to show disrespect and condemn the controversial statement.
Udhayanidhi has been in the midst of controversy with his statement on Sanatan Dharma where he demanded the eradication of the faith during a conclave called the Sanatan Abolition Conclave on September 2 in Chennai. Udhayanidhi drew parallels between Sanatan Dharma and diseases like coronavirus, malaria and dengue, saying, “We have to eradicate Sanatan (Sanatan Dharma),” which drew both criticism and support from different quarters.
In his defence, Udhayanidhi said that he had not said anything that had not been said before by leaders Periyar EV Ramasamy, BR Ambedkar and Annadurai, underscoring that his views only reflected the reformist, social justice ideology of such stalwarts.
Stalin later defended his son saying that he merely expressed his views on Sanatan principles that discriminate against Scheduled Castes, Tribals, and Women, with no intention to offend any religion or religious beliefs.
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking an FIR against Stalin and another DMK leader A Raja for their alleged hate speeches. A Raja had reportedly compared Sanatan Dharma to HIV. Contempt proceedings have also been sought against concerned police officials for alleged inaction against the DMK leaders.
