Sand mining case: ED raids several locations in Karur, Tamil Nadu
Chennai . The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided sand mines in Mallampalayam and Nanniyur areas of Karur district of Tamil Nadu.
This is part of the state-wide raids conducted on river sand mines by the premier investigating agency.
According to sources, ED officials measured the areas of mines and the actual extent of sand mining. During the raid, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was providing security to the 10-member team of ED officers.
On September 12, ED had raided all the sand stockyards and depots and seized important documents.
The agency officials also seized CCTV footage and other data storage devices. Although earlier raids were limited to the offices of sand mining companies, now action is being taken at river sand mining sites and sand quarries also.
During the September 12 raid, people linked to the mine owners had damaged the unpaved road leading to the mines to prevent ED officials from reaching the spot. (IANS)
