Sangrur: Protesting computer teachers will burn 91-inch effigy of Punjab government

Punjab: The relay hunger strike of computer teachers staging a sit-in protest outside Sangrur district administrative complex entered the 37th day today. The protesting computer teachers are demanding the transfer of their department from Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES) to the education department. Their other demands include implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission and government jobs for family members of 100 deceased computer teachers.

District president of Computer Teachers Association Nardeep Sharma said they had planned to burn a 91-inch effigy of the state government on October 10 as none of the 91 MLAs of the ruling party had come to meet them so far. Sharma said there was no difference between the AAP government and the parties that were in power earlier. He said they would not back down from their genuine demands and force the state government to accept them. Sharma said they would convert their relay hunger strike into a fast unto death after the panchayat elections were over as a large number of computer teachers were on election duty.
