Services won the National Games Men’s Football Final
Goa: In a thrilling encounter at the Nehru Stadium in Goa on 8 November, Services emerged as champions of the men’s football event at the 37th National Games with a 3-1 victory over Manipur in the final.
There was a tremendous struggle in the first half, till half time both the teams were tied at 1-1. Services took an early lead in the 13th minute when P Christopher Kamei scored. However, Manipur fought back and Phizam Sanathoi Meitei equalized just four minutes before the break.
The turning point came in the second half when Services once again took the lead. Unfortunately, Soibam Abhinash Singh scored an own goal in the 62nd minute to put Services ahead. Manipur’s comeback aspirations were further dashed when Rahul Ramakrishnan took the lead for good in add-on time.
The fight started between Kerala and Punjab for the third place. After the stipulated time ended in a goalless draw, Kerala won the bronze medal by defeating Punjab 4-3 in the tiebreaker.
Syed Bin Abdul Qadir scored the winning goal for the winning Services lineup, which was supported by a solid defense from Pradeep Kumar, Zothanpuia, Boinao Singh and Shafeel. The midfield prowess of Vijay, P Christopher Kamei, Allan Thapa, Lethaoleen Khongsai and Rahul Ramakrishnan contributed to their success, with Sameer Murmu leading the front line, supported by Jashandeep Singh in add-on time.
Manipur, led by AB Wiraibau, displayed talent in defense with Maibam Denny Singh, MD Rohit, Thiam Chingkheinganba and Soibam Abhinash Singh. In the midfield, Phizam Sanathoi Meitei, Ngarrianbam Janish Singh, Somishon Shirak and Limazam Sangkar Singh displayed resilience. The attacking duo of Samson and Wangkhemayum Sadanand Singh added to Manipur’s attacking efforts.

In a display of skill, determination and sportsmanship, Services emerged as worthy champions, and etched their name in men’s football history at the 37th National Games.
