Seven lakh challans issued in the state in ten months
Shimla. Effective enforcement of traffic rules plays an important role in reducing road accidents, ensuring public safety and enforcement of traffic rules in the state. Himachal Police is using technology based equipment. For traffic enforcement, Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), Breath Analyser, Laser Speed Gun and FourG Body Worn Camera are included. Police Headquarters at regular intervals reviews the performance under traffic challans, compounds and fines issued to ensure control over traffic violations causing road accidents.
The Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety also monitors the progress of the State Police in traffic enforcement measures from time to time. Assistant Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Tourist and Railways Himachal Pradesh Sandeep Dhawal said that a total of 6,99,618 challans have been issued during the period from January 1 to October 31, 2023, of which 1,68,106 challans have been issued in the period from January 1 to October 31. By compounding Rs 27,40,02,605 has been deposited in the government account.
At the same time, during the year 2022, from January 1 to October 31, 2022, 7,47,951 challans were issued, out of which 2,30,142 challans were compounded and an amount of Rs 29,69,66,343 was deposited in the government account. Instructions are being issued at regular intervals to improve the progress under MV Act in backward districts and use of technology in traffic enforcement. He informed that each violator also receives a message containing a link for online payment on his registered mobile number.
Means like net banking, UPI, credit or debit card, RTGS are available for online payment. However, Himachal Police is using technology based devices. Due to this, the noose is being tightened against drivers who break traffic rules. Intelligent traffic management system is playing a better role.
