Several injured after train collides with another train in Scotland

Scotland: Several people were injured after two trains collided at Aviemore railway station in the Highlands of Scotland, as reported by police on Friday.

The British media further noted that one of the trains involved in the collision was the famous century-old Flying Scotsman, which had set a record as the first steam train to exceed 100 miles per hour.

According to a statement from Police Scotland, “Two people have been taken to Raigmore Hospital. A number of other passengers are being treated at the scene, and inquiries are ongoing.”

The collision occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. (1800 GMT) at the station, which is situated about 600 miles (965 kilometres) north of London.

ScotRail, a train services operator in Scotland, stated that due to the emergency response to an incident on a private railway near the mainline, they were currently unable to operate any trains through Aviemore station.

In August 2020, an early morning service from Aberdeen to Glasgow came off the tracks, killing three people near the town of Stonehaven, northeast Scotland, after a landslip caused by heavy rain.

The company that owns and manages UK rail infrastructure was slapped with a multi-million-pound fine after admitting health and safety failings over the derailment.
