She made her dreams come true with the State Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme
Raipur. Rukmani Patel, a housewife in village Padkipali of Basna block in Mahasamund district, has become financially independent by rearing cows. Not only has she become financially empowered but she is also supporting her family. Mrs. Rukmani Patel comes from a progressive marginal farming family of Padkipali, because of which she already had a little knowledge of animal husbandry. She then gathered information about the schemes from the department employees, and decided to avail the benefits of Chhattisgarh State Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme. After getting self-financing application for cow rearing approved from the department, she purchased two cows and started her own dairy unit. Rukmani received full support and cooperation from her family in this endeavour.
She says that her dairy unit produces around 25 liters of milk per day. She keeps 2-3 liters for domestic use, and sells the remaining milk in the local market at the rate of Rs 50 per liter. She has started earning a net profit of about twenty thousand rupees per month. She makes extra Rs 2000-3000 per month by making ghee and curd from the milk produced in the unit.
Today Rukmani Patel has completed almost one and a half years of cow rearing, and in this period she has earned around three and a half lakh rupees. She saved up part of the profit earned from her dairy unit and utilized it to purchase eight goats, which will help her make more profit in the coming year. Mrs. Rukmani Patel’s success has proven the effectiveness of State Dairy Entrepreneurship Scheme in serving the cause of women empowerment.
