Situation started worsening in Lahaul-Spiti after snowfall

Kelong. There has been snowfall in the mountains along with the residential areas of the tribal area Lahaul Spiti. Manali Leh strategic road is closed for vehicular movement after fresh snowfall. Severe cold has hit the valley along with snowfall. About 12 cm of snow has fallen in Chandra Valley of Lahaul, while 20 to 35 cm of snow has been reported in Rohtang, Kunjam, Baralacha and Shinkula Pass.

Following feedback from the Border Roads Organization, the Lahaul-Spiti administration has closed the Manali-Leh strategic road beyond Darcha, while the Koksar-Rohtang road along with Manali-Gramphu-Kunjam has also been closed for traffic. However, Darcha-Shinkula-Janskar and Tandi-Kilad road is open for vehicular movement. OC Major Ravi Shankar of BRO 70 RCC said that keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, Manali Leh route has been closed beyond Darcha. Deputy Commissioner Lahaul Spiti Rahul Kumar said that traffic has been stopped on Koksar-Kunjam-Kaja along with Koksar-Rohtang route, while Keylong-Manali and Manali Kilar route via Atal Tunnel is open.
