Six people injured in fire at electronics shop in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Six people were injured in a massive fire at an electronics shop in Hyderabad’s old city.
On Monday night, a short circuit caused a fire at an electronics shop in Shalibanda, completely engulfing it. A CNG cylinder exploded in a car parked in front of the shop, further spreading the flames.
Eight fire engines, a skylift fire truck, and a firefighting robot were deployed to control the blaze. It took firefighters more than two hours to extinguish the flames. The fire that broke out in the electronics shop spread to nearby warehouses and other shops, causing significant damage. A clothing shop was also completely destroyed in the fire.
The explosion shattered the windows of nearby houses. The fire is also suspected to have been fueled by explosions in several refrigerator cylinders, geysers, and electronic items stored in the shop. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Khare Kiran Prabhakar said, “Prima facie, the fire appears to have been caused by a short circuit in the electronics shop.”
The fire engulfed a CNG car parked in front of the shop, and the cylinder blast spread rapidly. Some people were working in the shops, and some were also sitting in the car. Six people were injured in the fire and explosion and were admitted to the hospital. The DCP told the media that firefighters brought the situation under control, preventing further damage.
He appealed to people not to believe fake news circulating on social media. He asked people to trust only official police information and avoid sharing unverified news, which could cause unnecessary panic. According to eyewitnesses, the loud explosion was heard within a radius of one kilometer, causing panic among the people. Locals also claimed that the clock on the nearby Rajarai Clock Tower stopped at the time of the blast.
