Six youths arrested for misbehaving with a female doctor who came to watch a movie
Kolkata: A case of alleged molestation and indecent behavior of a female doctor who had come to watch a movie in a multiplex in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, has come to light. It is alleged that six youths made obscene and objectionable comments on the woman and when they protested, they misbehaved with the woman, her husband and the friends present there. The accused are also accused of having a tussle with the police who reached the spot after receiving the information. Kasba police station has arrested six accused on the basis of the woman’s complaint.
The incident took place at Cinepolis Multiplex of Acropolis Mall located in Kasba area of South Kolkata. According to the police, the woman, resident of Bansdroni area, is a doctor by profession. She had gone to the mall with her husband and some friends to watch a movie on Sunday evening. The complaint states that after the film started, six youths present there allegedly started making comments continuously on the woman and the people accompanying her.
The woman alleges that initially she tried to ignore the actions of the accused, but the alleged indecent behavior continued. Some of the accused were sitting in the back rows and later came forward and allegedly started behaving in an objectionable manner. According to the woman, the accused also made obscene and sexually suggestive comments. When the woman and the people present with her protested against this, the dispute escalated.
According to the complaint, the matter was not limited to objectionable comments only. The woman alleged that when she protested, she was molested and also had a scuffle with members of her group. According to a report, he has also been accused of trying to drag the woman out of the hall. The police are investigating all these allegations.
As the situation worsened, the multiplex management intervened in the matter and informed the Kasba police station. As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot. According to the woman, initially two policemen in plain clothes had arrived. It is alleged that the accused got into a tussle with them too and a scuffle-like situation arose. After this, the police took action and detained six people and later arrested them.
Based on the complaint of the woman, a case has been registered at Kasba police station. Police are investigating the facts related to the incident. According to the report, a case has been registered under sections 126(2), 115(2), 3(5), 79, 74 and 351(2) of the Indian Judicial Code. The woman’s statement has also been taken during the investigation.
Police are now also examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the multiplex. Through this, an attempt will be made to find out how the dispute started inside the cinema hall, who were the people involved in it and how the incident progressed. CCTV footage and statements of eyewitnesses can be important evidence in the investigation.
During the incident, one of the accused allegedly tried to influence the policemen by claiming to be associated with Jadavpur University. There was discussion on social media regarding this claim also. However, the association of the accused with any institution does not automatically prove or disprove the allegations in the case. The police is investigating on the basis of the complaint lodged and the available evidence.
In this case, the woman’s husband has also raised questions on the security arrangements of the multiplex. They allege that the security arrangements were not effective enough during the incident. On the other hand, according to the available reports, after the dispute escalated, the hall management informed the police and after that the police reached the spot.
