Sonia Gandhi accepted the truth, UPA government wanted to give reservation only for 10 years: Smriti Irani

Delhi. Union Minister Smriti Irani made a political target on Sonia Gandhi during the discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Women’s Reservation Bill. She said that the leader (Sonia Gandhi), who called the bill ‘our bill’, gave her clarification on two subjects while giving a speech in the Lok Sabha. That the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments were not done by a particular family (Gandhi family), but by the Narasimha Rao government, after whose death they were not even given a chance to bow in their own party headquarters and secondly by the Manmohan Singh government. In the bill which was passed by the Rajya Sabha at the time of 1975, there was talk of not giving reservation to women for the third time, that is, in the bill of the UPA government, it was said that reservation would be given only for 10 years.

Whereas, in the bill that his government has brought, it is clearly stated that the bill will remain in force for 15 years after its implementation. Smriti Irani hit back at Sonia Gandhi’s demand for immediate implementation of the reservation bill, saying that it has been the habit of Congress to tear apart the Constitution, whereas, BJP runs on the basis of the Constitution. He further said that the bill that Congress had brought was a weak bill. The way the opposition is trying to confuse, it is appropriate for the correct facts to come out.

He further said sarcastically that those who are talking about women’s respect in this Parliament today, the way they behaved with women in the Assembly, the way they have history, if such people do not comment on the dignity of women today, then this House will be ruined. Dignity will increase. He said that the country is accepting this effort of women empowerment and it would be better if the opposition does not become a hindrance in it. Responding to the demand for giving reservation to minority women, Smriti Irani said that giving reservation on the basis of religion is prohibited in the Constitution of India. Taking a dig at the attempt to take credit for the Women’s Reservation Bill, Smriti said that Jan Sangh had talked about giving reservation to women. Describing women’s empowerment as a big agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Minister further said that the leaders who call it a ‘jumla’ and talk about writing letters should keep in mind how they troubled women when they were in power and when the same person When (Narendra Modi) comes to power, the letters written by him are also being read carefully and given importance.
