IMD has informed that there is a possibility of light rain in isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts. There was light rain in some places in the state yesterday as well.
Meanwhile, the heat is sweltering in the state. With wells, streams and ponds drying up in the scorching heat of the day, drinking water shortages have begun in many districts. This is more in the hilly areas. Things are heading towards a situation where water has to be purchased at a price, including in hilly areas.People in Mundakkayam, Manimala, Nattakam, Kollad, Divanpuram, Pakkil, Keezhukunnu, Pampady, Karukachal, Nedumkunnam, Mariyappally, Kumarakom, Thiruvarppu, Kanjiram and Kurupanthara in Kottayam district are in deep worry. If the summer heat continues to increase, more water will have to be supplied to the fields. Farmers are asking how they will cultivate without water. Taking advantage of the acute shortage of drinking water, drinking water vendors have also entered the field. They are charging prices on a whim.Drinking water can be distributed only with the permission of the health department and the panchayats. The health department authorities must inspect the wells and water sources from which drinking water is taken and ensure their safety, but many do not take permission. Many people deliver water from freshwater rock pools in the name of clean water. Many of those who have their own vehicles and water tanks are bringing drinking water. The goal is to make money. Various rates are charged. Water is distributed in pickup vans, autorickshaws, and mini lorries.
