Special unit will be deployed in 606 police stations to provide justice to children who are victims of sexual abuse
Ranchi (IANS). In Jharkhand, Jharkhand Police is setting up a special unit to speed up the investigation of cases related to sexual exploitation of minors and to punish the culprits under the POCSO Act. Women-police officers and policemen will be deputed in this unit to be formed under CID.
Special women police will be appointed in all 606 police stations of the state. CID’s effort is not only to speed up the investigation in the case of POCSO, but also to collect maximum evidence on the spot. Not only this, on the basis of concrete evidence available, the accused should also be punished at the earliest.
Jharkhand Police believes that such women-police officers and personnel are needed for psychological counseling of the victims of sexual crimes, who do not panic on seeing the victimized children. Along with giving first aid to the victim girl, if needed, apply bandage and vaccine.
In view of this need, the women police personnel deputed in the special unit will be given training in psychology, law, medical forensic and nursing. Apart from this, they will also be given training to collect scientific evidence available on the bodies and clothes worn by the victims.
There has been a spurt in cases related to the POCSO Act in Jharkhand. In the last three years, 3388 cases of POCSO Act have been registered in the state. These figures are till March 2023. This information was given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Alam on the question asked by BJP MLA Manish Jaiswal during the budget session in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. Significantly, there are 16 special courts in the state to hear cases related to the POCSO Act.
